Der Schattenwurf der Nuss (The Shadow Cast by the Nut), 2019
The artist throws a handful of hazelnuts onto a sheet of paper and traces the shapes cast by their shadows with a crayon, which slowly rotate on the surface as the hours pass. The action is repeated until a dense web of marks densifies on the sheet, declaring the drawing finished. This aleatory game, a roll of the dice deprived of any apparent functionality, establishes a process of accumulation of marks constantly divided between authorial gesture and impossibility of control, between the search for significant structures and ostentatious banality.
