Der Schattenwurf der Nuss (The Shadow Cast by the Nut), 2019
The artist throws a handful of hazelnuts onto a sheet of paper and traces the shapes cast by their shadows with a crayon, which slowly rotate on the surface as the hours pass. The action is repeated until a dense web of marks densifies on the sheet, declaring the drawing finished. This aleatory game, a roll of the dice deprived of any apparent functionality, establishes a process of accumulation of marks constantly divided between authorial gesture and impossibility of control, between the search for significant structures and ostentatious banality.

L’artista lancia sul foglio di carta una manciata di nocciole e traccia con la matita le sagome proiettate dalla loro ombre, che con il passare delle ore lentamente ruotano sulla superficie. L’azione viene ripetuta finché sul foglio non si addensa un fitto intreccio di segni, decretando il disegno come finito. Questo gioco aleatorio, un lancio dei dadi privato di ogni apparente funzionlità, stabilisce un procedimento di accumulo dei segni costantemente divisi tra gesto autoriale e impossibilità di controllo, tra ricerca di strutture significanti e ostentata banalità.

Die Künstlerin wirft eine Handvoll Haselnüsse auf das Blatt Papier und zeichnet mit dem Bleistift die Umrisse ihrer Schatten nach, die sich im Laufe der Stunden langsam auf der Zeichenfläche fortbewegen. Die Aktion wird wiederholt, bis sich auf dem Blatt ein dichtes Geflecht von Zeichen verdichtet und die Zeichnung als fertig erklärt wird. Dieses aleatorische Spiel, ein Würfeln ohne jede offensichtliche Funktionalität, begründet einen Prozess der Anhäufung von Zeichen, die ständig zwischen autoritärer Geste und Unmöglichkeit der Kontrolle, zwischen der Suche nach bedeutungsvollen Strukturen und zur Schau gestellter Banalität schwanken.
